ACF highlights from Queensland Philanthropy Week 2024

The Australian Communities Foundation (ACF) team and members of our giving community were thrilled to join in the celebrations across Queensland Philanthropy Week 2024 (3–7 June).

Following the success of our inaugural Named Fund Forum in Melbourne, we were delighted to bring the session to Brisbane for Queensland Philanthropy Week. The lunchtime event was a fantastic opportunity for our Queensland fundholders to meet, share insights and discuss next steps for their Funds.

“It was a delight to see our Queensland giving community connecting and sharing their experiences in giving,” said Thomas Lopez, ACF’s Fund and Client Services Lead. “We look forward to hosting the session in other places around the country – coming next to South Australia in August.”

Led by Queensland Gives, the week culminated in a lunchtime ceremony to announce the annual Queensland Philanthropy Awards.

The ACF team shared a table at the ceremony with ACF clients and sector partners, joining over 640 guests and 250 students at Brisbane City Hall. The ceremony featured an inspiring guest appearance from tennis legend Ash Barty AO, who shared the story behind the recently established Ash Barty Foundation, alongside her father and Chair of the Foundation, Rob Barty.

Reflecting on the event, Olivia Clark-Moffatt (ACF’s Director of Engagement and Advisory), remarked, “The energy in the room was so vibrant. Hearing Ash and Rob talk about their drive to give back to the community was incredibly inspiring.

“It’s fantastic to witness the growth of Queensland Philanthropy Week and to see its potential for expansion across other States.”

In closing the ceremony, Queensland Gives CEO Tara Castle congratulated the seven award winners and all nominees.

“These awards are about celebrating the extraordinary contribution of everyday Queenslanders who go above and beyond for their chosen cause. All our nominees have demonstrated different facets of philanthropy by putting kindness, generosity, and compassion into action,” Tara told Philanthropy Australia.

Our team looks forward to bringing our Queensland giving community together again in the near future.
